Adding documents via email did not work
Have you forwarded a receipt or document via email and it still doesn't appear? Here you will find the most common causes and how to fix them.
If you forward receipts via email and they still don't appear in the sidebar, it could be due to the following reasons:
The email was not sent.
The recipient address is incorrect.
The email has not yet been delivered.
The email does not contain any attachment.
The email attachment is invalid.
Outlook / Microsoft Exchange 365 blocks forwarding.
1. The email has not yet been sent.
Sent emails can usually be found in the "Sent" folder of your email program. Check whether the forwarded email was actually sent.
2. The recipient address is incorrect
Check whether the recipient address is correct. Learn more here.
3. The email has not yet been delivered
If you import receipts or documents directly into the Excel table, they are usually available immediately. If you forward an email, your provider may delay delivery of the email. The email should arrive after a few minutes.
4. The email does not contain any attachment
Check whether the forwarded email contains an attachment.
Some email programs may be configured in a way that attachments are explicitly not forwarded when the email is forwarded (e.g. Apple Mail). In this case, adjust the settings of your email program.
If the receipt is directly in the email as text and was not sent as an attachment by the original sender, create a PDF of the email (e.g. print or export to a PDF) or take a screenshot of the email. You then drag this PDF or photo onto the sidebar of your Excel table.
5. The email attachment is invalid.
If the email attachment is anything other than an image, PDF file, or e-invoice, the receipt may not be fully captured.
Check whether you accidentally sent another email (nested email) as an attachment. Nested emails occur when you use the "Forward as Attachment" feature or forward multiple emails at the same time. In this case, forward a single email with the attachment.
6. Outlook / Microsoft 365 blocks the forwarding.
